"A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger" (Proverbs 15:1). Don't let the first thing that comes to mind be the first thing that walks into a conflict. "There is a big difference between a reaction and a reply." Choosing to reply gently doesn't make you weak; it shows that you have a "rare and godly strength". "Be gracious in your speech. The goal is to bring out the best in others in a conversation, not put them down, not cut them out" (Colossians 4:6 MSG). We need to think about what is true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent, and praiseworthy (Philippians 4:8), and show these things through our replies. "Pray also for me, that whenever I open my mouth, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel" (Ephesians 6:19). TerKeurst, Lysa. Unglued Devotional.
