Merry Christmas! The holidays are almost here! This is definately one of my favorite times of the year. Today I'm telling you about some of my family's Christmas traditions! The Christmas Season BeginsFor me, the Christmas season begins either sometime in October or right after Halloween - this year, it was like the second week of October. I'm sure most people are like, "What?! That's way too early!" And I'm like, "Anything to extend the Christmas season, right?" :P So I just start off listening to Christmas music! Some of my absolute favorite Christmas songs this year (and any year) are Do you Hear What I Hear? by MercyMe, The Little Drummer Boy by New Song, and - my absolute favorite - Carol of the Bells/God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen by ThePianoGuys!! Although, I love pretty much every single Carol of the Bells out there. ;) Sometime in November our family starts watching Christmas movies. We pretty much try to watch them all before Christmas actually comes - and sometimes watch a few after. We always watch out for classics like Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer and Frosty the Snowman on TV, and get lots of Christmas movies from the library. I mentioned my absolute favorite holiday movies in my last post! Christmas baking! It's the best baking ever! My Mom and Gillian go crazy making Christmas goodies as early as possible - and we eat tons of them before the Christmas holidays, so we usually have to make some more mid December. We just made these chocolate covered cherries this last weekend! This year I decided to decorate my room too! Gillian, my cousin Kiara, and I decided to make some snowflakes, and this is the final product. We also put up our tree around mid November and decorated our mantle, so we've been really enjoying watching movies with the Christmas lights on. Christmas MorningOn Christmas morning, we try to sleep in a bit - and then Gillian and I get to open little presents that Mom put into our stockings! It's a fun way to kick it off. We then make a big breakfast - usually waffles with peaches and sausages. It's super good! A very special moment is when Dad reads the Christmas story. We do this every year. It's a really good reminder of how Jesus came to earth - not as an obvious King wearing a crown and riding a majestic horse - but as a humble baby in a stable. And after reflecting on our Savior, the gift giving begins. We kind of randomly hand them out and just enjoy the moment together. And then we spend the rest of the day relaxing and spending time together. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! I'll see you in 2017! Sweet! This year we're having our family Christmas on Christmas Eve, since our other family gatherings are on Christmas Day and Boxing Day. And we might even change up breakfast this year, too! :)
